PLCC Gives Back To Dickson County On MLK's Birthday
24 Jan 2010 09:31 pm
In the spirit of giving back and volunteerism on Martin Luther King's Birthday the PLCC stepped up to plate. On Monday, January 18th a group of men under the leadership of PLCC Beautification Committee Member, Bill Gilbert and certified contractors, Brady Edmondson and Charles Jones spent the day working on the restoration of the Promise Land School building. The crew included: Marshall Holt, Gary Palmer, Ivan (last name unknown), Randy (last name unknown) and Marty Long. The crew returned on Tuesday, January 19th. The next several days were followed by rain which precluded any further work this week. On Saturday, January 23rd, Edmondson and Jones left the states for Guatemala where they will do mission work under the United Methodist Church. They are scheduled to return in two weeks. Upon return they plan to resume work on the school. While the men were at work at the school, the Promise Land Heritage Choir including: Julia Britt, Helen Hughes, Donna Harris, Essie Gilbert, Beverly and Hyburnia Williams, and yours truly headed to the Oakmont Elementary School in Dickson do a presentation for the School's Extended Care Program. The program consisted of an interactive slide presentation about the Promise Land School and an introduction to "Negro Spirituals". The children were told how Negro Spirituals originated and invited to sing along as the group lead several songs including "We Shall Overcome". After the program at the Oakmont the PLHC got lunch for the work crew and returned to Promise Land to oversee the progress.
Peace and Love,
Serina

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS BY PLCC LEADERSHIP
06 Jan 2010 11:45 am
Sokoto Fulani, Board Chairman writes:
"To my fellow PLCC Board of Directors, Officers and general membership, I am pleased to have posted the following words for the New Year 2010: Resolve to be positive in all that you think say and do. My little bit of the thinking spirituality known as "Numerology" teaches that a s study of the numbers for this year (2+0+1+0=3). Now, the number 3 for Christians is representative of: The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. Further, in the Africentric community the number 3 is significant of the need for "Collective Work and Responsibility" (Ujima).
So, my fellow Promise Land Club members, relatives and friends, may we join one another in 2010 to work together to bring the long awaited restoration of the Promise Land School building to completion and our other plans and goals to reality. I even ask us to resolve per contract, one with the other, to hold ourselves accountable for this Ujima for 2010! "
Della Bryant, Co-Chair and Chairman of the Hospitality Committee Resolves:
"In 2010, to create an effective communication process with in the PLCC to insure that all hospitality needs are adhered to in a timely manner, i.e. notification of achievements, special announcements, illness and deceased notifications, etc. And to engage the assistance of other members of the Hospitality Committee to be active in all Hospitality tasks and responsibilities.
Finally, I wish a New Year of health, joy, peace, love and plenty for all fellow PLCC Board members, officers, membership and friends. "
Calhoun Contemplating Homecoming
05 Jan 2010 10:58 pm
Hello Everyone,
Pastor M.R. Nesbitt, Sr. (Pastor of Calhoun Memorial Temple) informed his congregation that he was asked by the Promise Land Community Club (PLCC) Executive Committee Members and accepted being the "Honorary Visiting Pastor" for the Promise Land Homecoming Sunday Service each year.
We told everyone about the historic site, vendors, entertainment & hospitality during the Homecoming Celebration Weekend and the opportunity for them to become members of the PLCC at any time for $25.00. They were excited to hear about the Annual Meeting coming up April 14, 2010 in Columbus, OH.
We will also look into getting a bus, so the congregation can visit next year or maybe even this year.
Have A Bless New Year!
Sincerely,
Kimberly N. Castaneda, PLCC Member
Descendant of John Nesbitt
