Board Meeting Behind Reunion Ahead

What a great meeting! Our Board Chair skillfully steered us through a very full agenda. Many important items were addressed and much was accomplished. We were happy with the attendance and the excellent preparation for the meeting by the officers and committee chairpersons. The Columbus Chapter is to be commended for their hospitality and the outstanding social gathering with dinner that followed the meeting. Now that the Annual Board Meeting is behind us, we must move forward to our next major activity.
That of course is the Eighth Annual Promise Land Reunion Weekend.The Reunion Weekend will take place May 30th thru June 1, 2008. Our host hotel for the Reunion Weekend is the Quality Inn in Dickson. For reservation call(615) 740-1000 be sure to specify that you are attending the Promise Land Reunion in order to qualify for the special group rate of $49.99. These rooms are limited so you must make your reservation early.
The weekend of events will begin with "A Day of Caring" on Friday, May 30th. Come out and show how much you care for our beloved community by joining family and friends at the James and Mary Edmondson Park on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. as we do last minute preparations for the Festival. This will include cleaning the church, setting up exhibits in the school building and preparing the grounds and stage. We will end the day of labor with a fun-filled reception and cook-out at the park.
On Saturday, we will return to the Edmondson Park for the Annual Promise Land Community Festival. We request that all booths and vendor stations be set up by 10:00 a.m. As usual the Festival will offer an array of health and fitness exhibits, as well as food, and apparrell and notion stands. This year we will have arts and craft exhibits inside the school building. We will also have an exhibit to acknowledge our veterans and those who are currently serving in the U.S. Military. At 2:00 p.m. there will be a [i]"Read and Discuss Session" held inside the Church. During this time writers will share some of the family stories from the Heritage Book of Dickson County which was published and distributed in 2007. The Gospel Explosion featuring gospel artists and singing groups will begin on stage at 4:00 p.m. and continue throughout the evening.
The weekend will conclude with worship services at the Promise Land Church on Sunday morning. Services will begin at 10:00 with Praise Services led by Sylvia Holt and will lead into morning worship at 11:00 a.m. Our special guest is Rev. Michael Menefield, pastor of an AME Church in Newark, Ohio (where PLCC member Birdie Cole in a member) and his congregation. Also, included as a morning services speaker, will be Rev. Micheal Morgan, son of Minnie Nesbitt (deceased) and grandson of Ernest and Gracie Nesbitt. Dinner will be served at the school immediately following worship services.

Finally, the cold of winter seems to be abating just a bit. Let us urge everyone to prepare for our 2008 Reunion May 30 thru June 1, 2008.
The Columbus group is planning our responsibilities as your host for the upcoming Board of Directors Meeting scheduled for Saturday, April 19th. An announcement will be coming out soon regarding the hotel location for the meeting. The Board is requesting that each committee chairperson come prepared with a written report of their committee's activities and accomplishments over the past year and your goals for 2008-2009. These reports will be presented orally during the morning session and then submitted to the recording secretary.
God is yet blessing PLCC. We buried Aunt Myrtle Nesbitt (97 y.o.) today in Columbus. Aunt Myrtle who married to Uncle Babe, was originally from Cumberland Furnance. She and Uncle Babe lived in Promise Land before they moved to Columbus, Ohio.
Many thanks to the Hospitality Committee for the very appropriate condolence sent. We were pleased to have it read into the record for Aunt Myrtle's homegoing.

Come Share Our Vision

Hey Everyone:
I hope that you all will join us on Saturday, March 22nd at 6:30 p.m. for this exciting event, as we share our vision for the restoration of the Promise Land School building with all of Dickson County. We are excited as we embark upon restoring the old school building as it was over 50 years ago. Many of us who attended Promise Land School can vividly remember what it was like.
I am inviting you to share these precious memories. Please send your memories to the PLCC at 4326 Highway 48 North, Charlotte, TN 37036. Also include a photograph and we will publish your memories and photo in the 2008 Reunion Journal. If you do not have a personal memory, perhaps you know of one told to you by a family member who attended Promise Land School. We would welcome those stories too.
Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing you on Saturday at the Renaissance Center in Dickson, Tennessee for the "Come Share Our Vision" event. A donation of $8.00 per person is requested. The evening will feature a presentation by the PLCC Board Chairman, entertainment and refreshments.

Hospitality Concerns

I am please to inform the group that the Hospitality Committee is going strong as we attempt to stay on top of concerns related to many of our members. Throughout, the year we sent cards to members who are recoverying from illness. Sadly, we experienced the passing of family members, our efforts to address these concerns were successful with the help of Kaye. We are grateful to everyone for their support. As we approach the Annual Meeting and the Reunion Weekend, we are calling on you to let us know how the Hospitality Committee can best serve these events. Finally, if you are a member of the Hospitality Committee please contact me at bryantdg@bellsouth.net, we must make final prepartations for the meeting and weekend. We need your support and assistance.

Hello and happy new year to all our PLCC members supporters and friends. Everything will be great in 2008, I would like to thank all for there hard work paying of dues and donations.Avery special thanks to all that donated to our building fund at our board meeting in Columbus OH.I hope and pray that we will be able to do it again this year. And a very very special thanks to our CEO and the one who keeps the ball rolling Serina Gilbert.
