Basic Visual Art Workshop
10am - 3pm
Facilitated by
Omari Booker, Multidisciplinary Artist
This full-day workshop includes two-hour morning and afternoon sessions on painting, drawing, and collage techniques. Children and adults are invited to register.
A registration fee of $10 is requested to cover the cost of some supplies, snacks , and beverages. Each workshop participant will leave with a piece that they have created.

Omari Booker, visual artist based in Los Angeles, CA and Nashville, TN, began his journey as an artist his senior year of high school at Montgomery Bell Academy. While attending Belmont University, Omari studied Mathematics and other more traditional curricula before he finally focused on studio art and graphic design. He later earned his B.S. in Graphic Design from Tennessee State University.Oil paintings are Omari's predominant medium, but mixed media including charcoal, ink, and found objects are essential building blocks of his work, and are used to create finished pieces. Large scale work has been a constant creative outlet for Omari, and murals have also become a consistent part of his creative practice.
Omari takes a process-oriented approach to his art, embracing it as a therapeutic modality through which he is able to express his passion for the freedom and independence that the creative process allows him to experience.
His art is his personal therapy, and his desire is that those viewing it will have personal experiences of catharsis. The philosophy that undergirds Omari's work is FREEDOM THROUGH ART and he aspires to create work that communicates to his audience their unique and intrinsic ability to be free. see more work @omaribooker.com

Dr. Kevin Douglas Greene
Great, Great-Grandson of Abolitionist & Patriot Frederick Douglass

The Promise Land Annual Festival and Juneteenth Celebration seeks to celebrate American History, which is why we are delighted to open the event this year with remarks by Dr. Kevin Douglas Greene, the great, great-grandson of abolitionist & patriot Frederick Douglass.

Born in Paris, France, Dr. Greene is a proud US Army Veteran, having served 20 years active duty, exemplifying leadership for soldiers and Civilians alike.
Upon retiring from the US Army in 2003, he settled in Tennessee. He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. Among his many achievements are numerous military service awards, honorary membership with the National Federation of Black Veterans Network with rank of Brigadier General.
Currently, Dr. Greene is a Human Resource Specialist. He also serves as senior advisor with the Frederick Douglass Family Initiative, and is an ardent supporter and speaker for Hands Across Philadelphia, the African American Civil War Museum, and Operation Frederick Douglass on the Hill Family Foundation.
Along with the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives Organization, he works fervently to advance the Million Abolitionists Project, aimed at distributing Frederick Douglass books globally to young people.

Get ready to show off your favorite hat to represent your family, business, organization, or your own unique style in the 2026 Parade of Hats for Healthy Hearts.
The Parade of Hats for Healthy Hearts is a fundraiser pageant that brings awareness to healthy habits that may prevent heart disease, which disproportionately impacts African Americans, while symbolizing and celebrating former residents' walk down Promise Land Road in their finest attire as they made their way to community churches.100% of funds support the Promise Land Heritage Association (PLHA) benevolent fund, known as the Care and Kindness Efforts (CAKE) Fund, which supports critical and emergent needs of the community.

Pastor Tony Ward and Damascus (2pm)
Led by the pastor of Worley Furnace Baptist Church in Dickson, TN, Pastor Tony Ward, and Damascus is a gospel quartet known for faith-based songs and performances. They have recorded studio albums including “In My Savior’s Care” and “Where Could I Go”.

Cynthia Talley (MC)
The host for the musical performances is Cynthia Talley, who is a much sought after MC and DJ for local events. She is known for unique ability to hype and rally her audiences

The Fairfield Four (1pm)
A Nashville based gospel group was founded in 1921 at the Fairfield Baptist Church. Over the many years members have changed and transitioned. At the same time the group has received accolades and awards including Grammys, two Lifetime Achievements and an introduction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

Roughmix (3pm)
Roughmix is a Dickson County based band with sound and vocals influenced by a diverse musical genre including rock, country, jazz, blues and pop. They are a fan favorite in local clubs and events.

MD & Cobalt Blue (4pm)
A Nashville-based musical group blending rots of reggae, soul, funk and hip, led by Matthew “MD” McCoy. Known for positive, community-focused lyrics, they have been nominated for Nashville Independent Music Awards (NIMA) and a are a staple in local live music events.

Tina Brown (5pm)
Known as the "Bad Girl of Blues," Tina Brown is an acclaimed contemporary soul-blues singer, songwriter, and performer recognized for her powerfulvocals and engaging live performances. Based in the Clarksville and associated with the Texas/Gulf Coast blues scene, she won the 2025 Best Female Blues Artist of the Year from the Texas Music and Community Awards
